Stay Safe This Holiday Season
Christmas Tree and Decoration Fires
Christmas trees are combustible items that become increasing flammable as they continue to dry out in your home.
- Ensure your tree is properly watered
- Place tree away from any heat source
- Dispose of tree properly and in a timely manner
Holiday Cooking Safety
The holidays are the most common dates for structure fires caused by cooking. Stay safe while cooking by following these safety tips:
- Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, grilling, boiling, or broiling food.
- If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, remain in the kitchen while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
- Keep anything that can catch fire — oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels or curtains — away from your stovetop.
