Chipper Program

The  Scotts Valley Fire Protection District offers a Community Chipper Program  to assist in vegetation management by reducing fuel loads and creating defensible space. This program is intended for neighborhoods, homeowner associations, road associations and larger groups. It is not intended for yard waste and single property owner use. 

Fees and Requirements:

  • Qualified SVFPD employees are $100 per person/hour (required number of people may vary based on size and scope of work project)
  • CAL FIRE California Department of Correction & Rehab (CDCR) $200/day
  • Portable toilet rental $150/Month (required if CDCR is used)
  • Chipper $50/hour (required)
  • Administrative fee 15%
  • Limbs generated from brush, scrubs and small trees up to 9inches in diameter
  • No leaves, grass, hay, weeds greater than 9 inches in diameter, 6 feet long or more than 60 pounds.
  • No construction materials or debris. No staples, nails, barbed wire, vines or poison oak.
  • No fencing materials, scrap wood, construction debris or lumber of any kind. 
  • Piles must be organized no more than 4 feet high and 6 feet in diameter.
  • Piles must be within 10 feet of the roadside
  • Materials must be stacked where the chipping equipment can personnel can work safely. 
  • Piles cannot be in roadways or blind turns.
  • It is the responsibility of the homeowner or neighborhood to reuse or haul away the chips.
