Emergency Medical Services
The Scotts Valley Fire District provides first response emergency medical services (EMS) utilizing ALS (advanced life support) paramedics. All Type I and Type III engines are equipped to provide ALS care for variety of medical and traumatic emergencies. The District has 19 full time licensed and accredited paramedics assigned to duty on the engines. Minimum staffing on the engines is a least one paramedic per engine. The primary paramedic serves a dual role as a paramedic on emergency medical calls and firefighter for suppression calls.
The District participates in the Santa Cruz County EMS system as one of the 5 accredited ALS Fire agencies in the county. The District is also part of the Santa Cruz County Emergency Medical Services Integrated Authority (EMSIA) participating in many of the EMS subcommittees and sits as a representative on the EMSIA subsection of the Santa Cruz County Fire Chiefs Association. Through cooperative agreements the District can also provide mutual EMS aid for large scale incidents such as MCI’s (Multi Casualty Incidents) within the County or State.
